Malaysia regulates product safety through several agencies, with SIRIM QAS International acting as the main certification body. Electrical equipment listed under the Electricity Regulations 1994 needs a Certificate of Approval (CoA) from the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga, ST) and must carry the SIRIM-ST label before sale. This covers products such as household appliances, plugs and sockets, adaptors and chargers, and lighting.
Communications equipment, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices and mobile phones, needs certification under the Communications and Multimedia Act. SIRIM QAS issues this as the certifying agency for MCMC, and the product carries the MCMC label. Applications must be filed by a Malaysian-registered company, usually your importer or distributor.

With usable test reports, ST and MCMC approvals typically take 4–8 weeks. Approvals are time-limited and must be renewed, and SIRIM-ST labels are bought for the quantities you import. Plan label orders together with each shipment.
