The CE mark is small, but it stands for a lot. It is your legal statement that the product meets every EU law that applies to it, and you must be able to prove it with a technical file on request, for ten years. For many products, yes. Under LVD and EMC, for example, the manufacturer tests, compiles the file and signs the DoC. Some products need a Notified Body.
The General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 has applied since 13 December 2024. It adds safety, traceability and online-sales duties for consumer products.
A CB report to the equivalent IEC standard is widely used, provided European differences are covered.
Authorities can hold goods, order withdrawal or recall, and impose penalties. Marketplaces can delist the product.
