USA Certification for Indian Exporters: FCC, UL/ETL & FDA

US buyers rarely ask “are you certified?” in general. They ask for a specific document: an FCC ID or SDoC for electronics, a UL or ETL listing for anything that plugs in, or an FDA registration number for food, devices and cosmetics. PCN’s Delhi team works out exactly which ones your product needs and gets them in place before your first container sails.

USA Certification FAQs

Is there a single US certificate for all products?

No. Different federal agencies regulate different risks: the FCC covers radio emissions, NRTLs such as UL and Intertek cover electrical safety, and the FDA covers food, medical, drug and cosmetic products.

Does my BIS certificate count in the USA?

The certificate itself does not, but the test data behind it often shortens US testing, especially where it follows IEC standards.

Do I need a US entity?

Some routes need a US-based party: the responsible party for FCC SDoC, a US agent for service of process for FCC grantees, and a US Agent for FDA registration. Your importer can often fill these roles.

How fast can I start shipping?

FCC typically takes 2–6 weeks, UL/ETL 6–16 weeks, and FDA facility registration a few days once documents are ready.

Requirements, portals and fees change often. PCN confirms the applicable rules for each product before quoting. Certificates are issued by the relevant authority, accredited certification body or notified body.
