Products under Thailand’s mandatory TIS standards need a TISI licence held by the Thai importer, based on testing and a factory assessment. Radio and telecom products need NBTC approval. PCN prepares test evidence and audit readiness.

The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) sets mandatory Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) for a long and growing list of products. These include household electrical appliances, cables, plugs and sockets, lighting, steel products, helmets, toys and many electronics. Products under a mandatory standard need a TISI licence and the TIS mark before they can be imported or sold in Thailand.
For imported goods, the licence is held by a Thai importer. The process usually involves testing samples at a TISI-recognised laboratory and a factory inspection of the overseas manufacturer. Radio and telecom products also need approval from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).
| TISI mandatory licence | Products under mandatory TIS standards: sample testing, factory inspection, licence held by the Thai importer, and the TIS mark. |
|---|---|
| NBTC – Class A | Radio and telecom equipment that needs certification before import and sale. |
| NBTC – Class B | Lower-risk radio equipment, such as some short-range devices, covered by a supplier declaration and registration. |
| Thai labelling | Product markings and consumer information in Thai, as required by the applicable standard and consumer protection rules. |
Licensing under a mandatory TIS standard commonly takes 3–6 months, depending on laboratory queues and when the factory inspection can be scheduled. NBTC approvals for radio products are usually faster. Licensed products remain under surveillance, so changes to the design, components or factory must be notified.
Cost depends on the standard involved, the number of models, sample testing, and travel for the factory inspection.
